Two college students, Pranjali Yadav (21) and Ashlesha Gawande (21), tragically lost their lives when a cement mixer truck overturned and crushed their moped on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 pm near Sakhar Patil Chowk while the victims were riding towards Hinjawadi, a commercial area in Pune. Both women were final-year Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) students at a private college.
The truck, driven by Amol Waghmare, was traveling from Hinjawadi to Mahalunge. Police reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle while making a left turn at high speed. As a result, the truck overturned, and the heavy mixer fell on top of the moped, trapping the women under its load. The collision caused fatal injuries to both women, and they were pronounced dead at the scene. The weight of the cement mixer exacerbated the impact, leading to immediate fatalities.
CCTV footage from the area captured the moments before the crash. It showed a man on a scooter narrowly avoiding the overturned truck, leaving his vehicle behind as it skidded and came to a stop near him. Emergency responders and police reached the site quickly and coordinated the removal of the truck using a crane. Traffic was severely disrupted as authorities cleared the wreckage and conducted an investigation at the scene.
